Skilling Up

Tapping new talent to fill the skills gap

Talent shortages challenge employers around the globe, and India is no exception. As one of the world’s leading source of IT professionals, India is under incredible pressure to keep up with growing demand—but all too often the available talent lacks the technical training and soft skills employers need now. Some say that up to 48% of IT jobs in India go unfilled. Through our Hire-Train-Deploy program, ManpowerGroup is addressing that skills shortage and helping people from all walks of life skill up and position themselves for success.

Shattering gender perceptions

In a world searching for IT talent, even the most recent university graduates lack practical hands-on skills training that could close the gap between job applicants and job requirements. At the same time, demand is so great that with guidance some individuals are changing careers, reskilling and increasing their earning potential.

Partnering with a large IT firm in India, we developed Hire-Train-Deploy, an intensive 40-day boot camp to give ambitious but “not quite qualified” job seekers the skills to succeed. Hands-on training for the most sought-after skills—including Java, Oracle, CICS, C++, Informatica and Blue Prism, to name a few. In 2017, Experis has enrolled more than 1,500 participants from all over India and placed more than 97% of the graduates. Remarkably, in a country where only a small percentage of women work, over 700 of these talented people were female. Helping young professionals move into some of India’s highest-paying, growth-oriented jobs is a triumph in itself, but such steps toward gender parity and wage equality too are inspiring to employers and individuals alike.
